Every year, golfers
from all over the world make the pilgrimage to St
Andrews to play in the home of golf.
Fife is truly the heartland of golf. Every serious
golfer the world over wants to play the famous Old
Course, but such is the demand, a daily ballot is
held to select the lucky players. |
|
Fortunately there are many other fine courses
throughout Fife to cater for golfers of all abilities.
Among the finest is at the Lundin
Golf Club in Lundin Links - just
300 yards from Sandilands. Lundin has recently
been used for the final qualifying rounds for
the British Open Championship when it is played
at St Andrews. Just behind our garden wall is
the first tee of the Lundin Ladies Golf Course, established
in 1892 and probably the oldest ladies' club in
the world. This well designed and maintained nine
hole course provides an ideal early morning recreation
before you tackle your Sandilands breakfast!!
|
|
| Another fine course is two miles away at
Leven
Links, also used for the pre-qualifying
of the British Open. Its neighbour, Scoonie Municipal
Course, despite its closeness to the sea, is essentially
a parkland course.
Along the coast of the East Neuk are other well
known courses with long proud histories.
Elie
dates back to 1589 and is set on a headland affording
spectacular views of the Firth of Forth (10 minutes
drive from Sandilands). At Crail
you can choose from the long established Balcomie
Links course or the recently built Craighead course. | |
 |
In fact, drive in any direction and you can
find more great courses. You could stay here for
a month and play a different one each day. A half
hour drive will take you to two more used for
the British Open at Ladybank
and Scotscraig
(Tayport). Or you could visit the Scottish National
Golf Centre at Drumoig
which boasts not only a fine 18 hole course and
hotel, but also some of the best golf practice
facilities in Britain. |
